About me

Current position

I am currently Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) of Public Policy and Management at the School of Finance and Management of SOAS University of London.

I act as Director of the Centre for Financial and Management Studies (CeFiMS) of SOAS University of London since October 2016.

I am Director of the following Master’s programmes:

  • MSc Public Policy and Management (on campus)
  • MSc Public Financial Management (on campus)
  • MSc Public Policy and Management (distance learning)
  • MSc Public Financial Management (distance learning)

I am also Convenor of SOAS Summer School courses since 2016. In the period 2015-2019, I also acted as Director of the Centre for Water and Development of SOAS University of London.

I currently hold the following positions at the University of London:

  • Member of the Academic Committee of University of London Worldwide (since October 2018)
  • Member of the Learning and Teaching Quality Committee of SOAS University of London (since October 2017)
  • Member of the Quality Assurance and Student Lifecycle Sub-Committee of the University of London International Programmes (since October 2015)

I started working in academia in 2004, when I joined the University of Cagliari in Italy, where I attained the rank of Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic, Juridical and Political Sciences.

I also qualified as Chartered Accountant and Accounting Auditor in Italy in 2001. I occasionally worked as accountant in the areas of financial reporting, management control systems, and auditing, for clients in both the public and the private sector (mainly healthcare organisations and retail).

Education

I attained a PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2012, with a thesis on the implementation of regulatory reforms in multi-layered governance systems.

Previously, I had attained a PhD in Italy in 2002, at the University of Salerno, with a thesis on the appraisal of investments in the public sector.

Before that, I did a MSc Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (1998-1999) and attained a degree in Economics and Commerce at the University of Cagliari in 1996.

MOOC

I authored a MOOC at SOAS University of London, titled “Understanding Public Financial Management: How Is Your Money Spent?”, which was offered on the platform Futurelearn (run in 2016, 2017 and 2018).
